Rev. Joshua Omungo (Senior Minister)
A People with a Great God
Our God is indeed a Great God. He is God almighty. He is and besides Him there is none other. His first commandment is that we shall have no other gods besides Him.
We do indeed have a Great God – Worship is to be reserved to him alone, He is God who does Great things, He wants us to be Great people in his Kingdom.
God Alone is to be worshipped
It is in our very nature to worship, and that inner drive is God given. The disaster is that as part of a fallen race, we have replaced the object of our worship. Rather than worship the true God, we have worshipped other gods – a hero, possessions success, pleasure, a political cause, a carved idol, self and so forth. In 1 Peter 2:9 we are reminded that we a chosen people of God called to declare His praises. Let us dethrone all other goods and worship God alone.
God Does Great Things
Many times we limit God and fir Him in “a box”. We can confess like Paul in 1 Corinthians 2:9 that, “No eye has seen, nor ear has heard, nor mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him”. Such as a testimony makes us trust in God and let Him take change of our destiny. The Israelites experienced god’s hand mighty as they journeyed from Egypt to the Promised Land. In Egypt god had proven to be god. On the journey He opened the waters of the Red Se, provided water in the wilderness and led his children clearly with a cloud, yet they failed to trust that God could make them conquer the “Giants”. We should trust God for Great things.
God Wants you to be Great in his Kingdom
Many Christians resist the thought of greatness because they imagine it is all about selfish ambition. Indeed selfish ambition is wrong but greatness in the kingdom is something we should aim for.
God designed us to be great in His eyes. When he created humanity, he proclaimed us not just good, but “very good” [Gen 1: 31].
Towards the end of his earthly ministry, Christ was approached by some of hi disciples who wanted to be great in his kingdom. Christ did not condemn them but ht guided them on what greatness was all about. Each Christian can be “great” in the kingdom. Each Christian can impact greatly for Christ in their spheres of influence. Let us aim to be extraordinary Christians and not merely ordinary. Greatness is very costly. It means communion with God, it means self denial, it means reading Gods word.
We do indeed have a great God. He both tracedent and imminent; He is indeed distant yet again very close that one can relate with Him very personally.
